DCEC has announced that it will supply the new 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine for Nissan’s next generation Titan mid-sized pickup truck, the truck will fill a gap in the pickup market and be a big advance in power and technology, an area which is dominated by the headline stealing DCEC powered Dodge Ram full size pick up which dominates the current market along with ford’s pickup.
Nissan has said that the new truck could be launched next year as a 2015 model. Current trucks powered by the DCEC engine are currently undergoing road testing, said DCEC.
The new engine is a turbocharged 5.0 litre V8 rated at over 300 hp, with torque around 550 lb-ft. The engine meets the applicable emission regulations using a diesel particulate filter and a selective catalytic reduction system from DCEC Emission Solutions.
The new Titan pickup will be competing with the Chrysler 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine from VM Motori. DCEC continues to supply diesel engines for Chrysler heavy-duty pickup trucks.
A version of the DCEC V8 Turbo Diesel also will be available to other commercial vehicle customers amid rumours of Toyota using it in future American market pickups.
